"Nong Jhangjhihsi" (Give birth to a boy) and "Nong Wajhihsi" (Give birth to a girl)
弄璋之喜及弄瓦之喜
"Nong Jhangjhihsi" and "Nong Wa" are from "The Book of Songs". "Jhang" is one of e jade in ancient time." Wa" is the spindle which is made of mud. The original meaning of "Nòng zhāng" is giving birth to boys who can play with jade；"Nong Wa" is giving birth to girls can play with spindle and hope she can do well with needlework. Nowadays, giving birth to boys is "Nong Jhang"；"Nong Wa" means giving birth to girls.
弄璋及弄瓦這兩個詞出自《詩經》篇章。「璋」是指古代一種玉器，「瓦」是古代用泥燒成的紡錘，「弄璋」原意是生了男孩可以玩玉器；「弄瓦」原意是生了女孩可以玩紡錘，希望她將來能勝任女红之意。後來，人們把生男孩叫「弄璋」，生女孩叫「弄瓦」。
